When a JW's life comes close to its end...
by suavojr intalking with a long time elder last night, was very revealing.
he has been a jw for over 60 years, a man that was incarcerated in cuba in his early 20s and faced great loss and suffering over his beliefs and for being born in a communist country.
this brave man is now brittle and low-spirited.. while nightfalls on his life, he is made aware the end is near.

"Nevertheless is it sad to see the dissonance in his eyes and the sad realization that his life is coming to end. I don’t feel that we should blame people for staying just because they just want to believe."
VERY TRUE suavojr. Having this experience is what began my own awakening years ago. Watching avery faithful relative die a terrible death.

Midweek Meetings no longer Necessary
by Tech49 ini am sure we have all seen the recent letter to the boe concerning the change that will take place to the meeting arrangement during the week of the co visit.
to recap the basics: the meeting that usually contains the cong bible study (book study) and a co talk will be discontinued, publishers are encouraged to use their family worship night that week to cover book study material.. so here is a point that i think has been missed, or not even considered:.
if that particular meeting is hereby deleted from the schedule, the co and his wife will never ever have to participate in or go to another "book study", or "bible study" night again.

The CO is the only reason an elder still shows up at my door once a year.

Looking Back, Are You Embarrassed By Your Attitudes, Speech, Actions as a JW?
by minimus ini think of how judgmental we were as witnesses.
"worldly ones" were almost as bad as disfellowshipped ones but not as bad as "apostates"..

I cringe when I think of how judgemental and snobby I was. Absolutely embarassing.

Yes, I see you shunning me!
by Blackbird Fly ineven tho i grew up in the org, so much that once seemed normal behavior now seems so bizarre and even cruel.
i have run into at least 3 people from our old cong since the memorial (i didnt attend) anyhow i have noticed how each time they go out of their way to say hello and flash me a big bright smile, only to immediately avert their eyes and end any possible commitment to a conversation.
i dont really care as i dont have anything to say to them anyhow.

I just smile and return the greeting. Its just strange how the org encourages them to be friendly and civil towards those who dont attend but not 'overly so'. Its such a manipulative way to make non-df'd ones see what they are in for if they should stay away. And the ones who do it dont even see how they are being manipulated. It almost strikes me as comical because you can see how uncomfortable they are in acting according to how theyve been told to- its basic niceness immediately followed by forced snobbery. Its not unlikely they will catch me in the right frame of mind one day soon to say "you dont have to pretend to be nice, lets just get right to the shunning part okay?"

Happened to me. The person is still 'in'. I am not. I am free, he isnt.
Knowing how common it is helped open my eyes and THANKFULLY get my family out before my young child was made a victim too.Im sorry for everyone else who sufferred thru such horrible experiences with little to no support.
